Chairman Sir Gavin Lightman

After obtaining a LL.B (First Class Honours) at University College London and a LL.M at the University of Michigan, he was called to the Bar in 1964. In 1980 he was appointed a Queen’s Counsel.
As a barrister, he had a wide and extensive litigation practice within the UK both at trial and appellate courts (including the House of Lords and Privy Council) and abroad (in particular in Singapore, Hong Kong, Bermuda, the West Indies, the Cayman Islands and Gibraltar). His practice extended from equity and trusts to commercial and administrative law.
As a judge, he has given a number of leading judgments on important topics in the fields of private law in particular, trust and commercial law, of public law, revenue law and insolvency.

Mediation
Amongst his numerous publications is the leading textbook Lightman & Moss, The Law of Administrators and Receivers of Companies now in its 4th edition and numerous articles on topics including legal practice and procedure, mediation, trust and insolvency.
Frequent lecturer in the UK and abroad, in particular in the USA, Singapore and South Africa on insolvency, litigation, legal practice and procedure and mediation. Regular invitee to and speaker at insolvency conferences and in particular US Federal Bankruptcy Conference. After election as member of the International Insolvency Institute, he was a keynote speaker at American Bankruptcy Institute London Conference in September 2005, and he has been a frequent speaker at the annual International Insolvency Institute Conference.
